Homework

Dear Parents,

 

               This is your child’s homework journal. There are 9 weeks of homework included. The math and language homework assigned is designed to spiral back through the curriculum so students are always practiced in their skills. The science and social studies homework will cover topics we are studying in class. In addition to homework, your child has to study sight words and math facts every night.  Please ensure that you help your child practice!

 

During the first nine weeks of school I will train the students in the homework spiral and assist them in these tasks. I expect the students to do their homework to the best of their abilities BY THEMSELVES. This will be a difficult challenge at first, but will become easier and easier as the year progresses. Students should not get upset if the work seems difficult at first, and should make their best attempt on the tasks. I need to see their thinking and mistakes to better know how to teach them. I consistently check for homework completion every day. Your child should never have more than an hour of homework per night.

 

 

The homework is as follows:

 

Reading/ Writing: Read a book for at least 20 minutes a night and respond to the reading. READING LOGS ARE DUE EVERY MONDAY. (20 minutes)

Language Arts: Spiral HW Sheet. Spiral LA homework is a weekly sheet with only four to five activities a night. Study spelling words.  Students  must be able to read and spell the words.. (15 minutes)

Science/Social Studies: Please see the homework sheets.  During the 1^st 9 weeks the science homework is actually a project!(10 minutes)

Mathematics: 9 problems a night, Mon.-Thurs.  and Study addition and subtraction facts  Periodically they may have additional problems depending on the topics and skills we study.(15 minutes)

***There may also be special projects or other types of homework assignments periodically given.
